FULTON
COURT - Brooklyn The complex consisted of five (5) abandoned 4 story buildings which surrounded a vacant lot. The design challenge was, to uni~ the structures on each side of the vacant lot. |

Our
solution was to close all street entrances and build planters and windows
where they formerly occurred. This allowed us to convert the vacant lot
into a central court yard complete with poured concrete planters, brick
paving in a herringbone pattern, brick paved steps and new glass entrances
and curtain wall. The court faced the former rear of the building however
these facades were stuccoed and painted using earth colors. A new elevator
was added afier uni~ing the four adjacent buildings via a new wide public
hall. The fifih building was reoriented with its front entrance closed
also. This complex provides 42 moderate income apartment units ranging
from 0-bedroom to 3-bedrooms. The developer of the project was the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. A major producer of affordable housing in Brooklyn with the assistance of HUD. This landmark development was granted a NYC Bard Award. |
